Digital Optical Brinell Hardness Tester – HOPF-3000 D
Digital optical Brinell hardness tester is a specialized instrument used to measure the hardness of materials using the Brinell hardness test method. The Brinell hardness test is a widely used method for determining the hardness of metallic materials. The Brinell hardness measurement device employs an optical system to measure the size of the indentation made by a spherical indenter on the surface of the material being tested. The indenter is usually a hardened steel or tungsten carbide ball with a known diameter. In this machine the indenter swivels and projects diameter of ball impression immediately after unloading operation which avoids additional time for measurement of ball impression. This is a production testing machine and is suitable for foundry, forging shops , heat treatment shops, engineering institutions etc.
Testing Process
- Preparation: The surface of the material to be tested is prepared by ensuring it is clean and free from any contaminants.
- Indentation: The tester applies a known load to the indenter, causing it to penetrate into the material. The load is maintained for a specific duration to allow for indentation formation.
- Measurement: The digital optical system in the tester captures an image of the indentation. It analyzes the image to determine the average diameter of the indentation accurately.
- Calculation: Using the average diameter of the indentation and the applied load, the tester calculates the Brinell hardness value using a standardized formula. The Brinell hardness value is typically expressed in units of force divided by the surface area of the indentation (e.g., kilograms per square millimeter or pounds per square inch).
- Results: The hardness value is displayed on a digital screen or outputted to a computer for further analysis and recording.
Brinell hardness measurement device offers several advantages over traditional Brinell testers. It provides faster and more accurate measurements, eliminates the need for manual measurement using an optical microscope, and offers additional features like automatic image analysis and data storage. Brinell hardness measurement device is a specialized instrument used to perform Brinell hardness tests on materials. The Brinell hardness test is a popular method for measuring the hardness of metallic materials by indenting a spherical indenter into the surface of the test specimen.
